Uninsured Drivers

Did you know that uninsured drivers are around ten times more likely to drink and drive and three times more likely to be convicted of driving without due care and attention?

These frightening statistics are made worse when you realise that an estimated 1 in 20 motorists regularly drive without insurance!

If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident it can be very difficult to identify that the other driver is uninsured, especially with the trauma and upset involved. Therefore you should gather the following information regardless:

  • Take a note of the other driver’s car make, model and registration number.

  • Ask for the other driver's name and address (always ask even if ultimately these turn out to be false).

  • Make a note about the damage to the other car and the accident scene. Pay particular attention to road markings, road signs, light and weather.

  • If you are lucky enough to have a witness then ensure you collect their full contact details.

  • If you have a camera in the car (or one built into your mobile phone) take lots of pictures and try to get a clear picture of the other driver.

  • Always remember to keep a pen and paper in your car.

  • Contact your insurer as soon as possible to report the incident and ask for their advice.
